Sword, three grenades found at Kandy ASP’s house

A two-and-a-half-foot-long sword and three live hand grenades were recovered from the rented house of an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Nattarampotha, Kandy, yesterday (17) by the Kandy Police Special Crime Investigation Division.

Police stated that the items were discovered during a search conducted based on information provided to the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Kandy Division by the wife of the Assistant Superintendent of Police, who is currently on duty in the Kankesanthurai area.

Police investigations revealed that the Assistant Superintendent of Police is a father of three, and family disputes existed between him and his wife for about nine years.

The hand grenades and the sword, found inside a wardrobe containing the clothes of the Assistant Superintendent of Police, were forwarded to the Pallekele Police for further investigations.

A statement is scheduled to be recorded from the Assistant Superintendent of Police regarding the incident, and the Kandy Special Crime Investigation Unit and the Pallekele Police are conducting joint investigations.
