Taiwan halts tourist visa for Sri Lankans

Tourist visa applications from Sri Lankan nationals will no longer be accepted in accordance with the latest visa policy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) government, the Taiwan Foreign Ministry announced.

Sri Lankan nationals may still apply for a visa if visiting on an official invitation by a government agency of the Republic of China (Taiwan), participating in exchange activities, visiting relatives within the third degree of kinship, conducting business, joining a vessel in Taiwan, or seeking medical treatment, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

Applications under these permitted categories will be processed by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Chennai or the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore.

Applicants must submit authenticated documents from a guarantor in Taiwan, a Letter of Guarantee, and a copy of the guarantor's Republic of China (Taiwan) National Identification Card.

Required submissions also include a copy of the passport biographical page, a Police Clearance Certificate, proof of financial capability, proof of accommodation in Taiwan, and a return air ticket.

Applicants are advised to ensure all required documentation is prepared prior to submitting their applications.
