Rainfall expected to increase in southwestern

Rainfall is expected to increase moderately in the southwestern part of the island starting tomorrow (28), according to a statement issued by the Department of Meteorology.

Several spells of rain may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

A few showers or thundershowers may occur at a few locations in the Uva province and the Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 2.00 pm, while dry weather will predominantly prevail across the rest of the island, the statement noted.

Strong winds of about 40 to 50 kilometres per hour can be expected intermittently in the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and the Hambantota, Trincomalee, and Puttalam districts.

The department urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimise dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
