Bail rejected for Jaffna Kings co-owner and other suspect

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (27) rejected the bail application made on behalf of the two suspects, including the co-owner of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) Jaffna Kings team, who are remanded on match-fixing charges.

The magistrate rejected bail in that manner, delivering the order today (27) regarding a motion filed in court by Attorney-at-Law K.W.S. Fernando, who appeared in court for the suspects on the 24th in connection with the incident.

The attorney had requested the court through the motion to release his two clients on bail as they are suffering from illness.

Accordingly, the court, which rejected the bail application, ordered the suspects to be further remanded until the 31st.

Facts regarding this incident were reported to the court by the Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports of the Sri Lanka Police.

Those remanded in that manner are two Indian nationals, namely the owner of the Jaffna Kings team, Manjot Kalra, and Yuvraj Pushpa, who is said to have aided and abetted the incident.

Further reporting facts to the court regarding the incident, the investigating officers informed the court that these two are suspects in relation to the investigation conducted regarding match-fixing in the 2026 LPL tournament.

The investigating officers also informed the court that they express objection to granting bail, as further investigations are being conducted regarding these suspects.
