TRCSL blocks 24 online websites

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has taken immediate action to block access in Sri Lanka to 24 websites operating online gambling and betting services without the required licences.

TRCSL, which operates under the Ministry of Digital Economy, took steps yesterday (04) to block access to the websites in Sri Lanka with immediate effect.

The regulatory action was taken following a notification issued by the Gambling Regulatory Authority, which operates under the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, in accordance with the provisions and powers vested in it under the Gambling Regulatory Authority Act, No. 17 of 2025.

Under Sections 15, 16 and 18 of the Gambling Regulatory Authority Act, operating and promoting online gambling services in Sri Lanka without obtaining the required valid licences constitutes an offence under Section 44 of the Act.

Accordingly, TRCSL has issued the necessary instructions to all telecommunications service providers to prevent access from within Sri Lanka to the relevant websites.

The Ministry of Digital Economy and TRCSL have urged the public to refrain from engaging in or investing money in unauthorised online gambling platforms operating in violation of Sri Lanka’s legal framework.
