Six killed in road incidents and drownings within 24 hours

Six people were killed in road incidents and drownings across the country over the past twenty-four hours.

Four of the deaths were on the roads, and among them, according to the Police Media Division, were a seven-year-old girl and two women.

A forty-three year old man drowned while bathing at the Kalu-wewa tank in Dehiattakandiya.

And in Kalpitiya, a twenty-one-year-old, who had put out to sea in a fishing boat from the Janasavipura beach, drowned.

Meanwhile, with a long weekend in progress, there was heavy traffic this morning at several of the exit points on the Southern Expressway, on the Outer Circular Expressway, and on the Central Expressway.

On the Southern Expressway, on the lane running towards Galle, traffic was reported to be heavy, on account of repair work on the section between Dodangoda and Gelanigama.

There is also heavy traffic on the Colombo to Kandy main road, between Nittambuwa and Pasyala, where repair work is under way.

The police are urging drivers to drive with care and without the use of drugs.
