Historic Kandy Esala Procession concludes with final rituals

The water-cutting ceremony marking the conclusion of the historic Kandy Esala Procession was held at the Getambe ferry on the Mahaweli River today (28).

The annual festival will officially conclude with the day procession.

Following the conclusion of the procession, the Chief custodian, together with the custodians of the Four Maha Devalayas, is scheduled to hand over the Sannasa, a memorandum confirming the successful completion of the Esala Procession, to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake this afternoon at the President’s House in Kandy.

Meanwhile, President Dissanayake joined the public last night to witness the final Randoli Procession as it made its way through the streets of Kandy.

Before the procession, the President paid homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic and called on the Chief Prelates of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters, receiving their blessings.

The sacred casket was carried by the Katharagama Wasana tusker during the final Randoli Procession.
