Tusker 'Wasana' to participate only in major pageants from now on

The 'Wasana' tusker, belonging to the historic Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, will only be made to participate in major pageants across the island from now on.

According to the Media Unit of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, the decision was taken by Custodian Thilina Madusanka considering the health and well-being of the elephant.

The tusker Wasana was previously made to participate in smaller pageants held in various areas, leading to ongoing requests from various parties seeking the tusker’s presence.

However, the media unit pointed out that continuously transporting and deploying the elephant for pageants poses a threat to both the animal's life and health.
