Tourism arrivals surpass 1.56 Mn, but revenue dips

Sri Lanka attracted 3,185 tourist arrivals from September 1 to 6, bringing total arrivals from January 1 to September 6 to 1,567,007. Average daily arrivals stood at around 550.

India remained the leading source market with 395,377 arrivals, followed by the United Kingdom with 152,625, China with 102,473, Germany with 91,763, Russia with 81,211 and Australia with 78,074.

Meanwhile, tourism revenue continued its declining trend, with Sri Lanka recording USD 1,796.7 million from January to the end of July, an 11.5% decrease compared with the corresponding period last year. Revenue in July alone amounted to USD 285.5 million.
