Railway unions threaten strike on Thursday if administrative issues remain unresolved

The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association (SLRSMA) has warned that a planned strike scheduled for 17 September will proceed if the government fails to promptly appoint a new General Manager of Railways to resolve ongoing administrative issues within the Railway Department.

SLRSMA President Sumeda Somaratne stated that, for the first time in history, railway passenger associations have also extended their support to the planned trade union action due to unaddressed passenger grievances, including persistent train delays.

Meanwhile, railway trade unions have been invited for discussions with the Deputy Minister of Transport tomorrow (14) to address the prevailing issues within the department.

Trade union representatives emphasised that if acceptable solutions are not provided during tomorrow's discussion, they will move forward with the trade union action as scheduled.
