MP Namal Rajapaksa remanded until September 23

Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa was ordered to be remanded until September 23 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today (16) after being named as a suspect by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with alleged financial irregularities and money laundering involving the acquisition of Airbus aircraft. The magistrate announced that a ruling regarding bail will be delivered on the same date.

During the court proceedings, Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara informed the court that Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has been formally named as the fourth suspect in the ongoing investigation. The Deputy Solicitor General further stated that instructions have been received from the Attorney General regarding the suspects in the case, and formal charges will be filed without further delay.

Submissions also noted that officials from Airbus had previously arrived in Sri Lanka on multiple occasions to provide statements concerning the controversial transaction.
