WIM launches Asia’s first AI-driven youth literacy programme

Women in Management (WIM) has created a historic milestone for Sri Lanka with the launch of Asia’s first AI-driven, certified AI Literacy Programme, aimed at equipping young people with essential future-ready digital skills.

The OILead AI Literacy Programme, implemented by Women in Management and the Institute of Women in Management (IWIM) in collaboration with the Otermans Institute in the United Kingdom, is designed to provide inclusive access to artificial intelligence education, particularly for youth who face financial or connectivity barriers.

The programme is open to participants aged 15 to 30 and requires only a smartphone and basic English proficiency to begin. Notably, there is no course fee, no requirement for internet connectivity, and no hidden charges. Participants are required to pay only a one-time registration fee of USD 8.

One of the programme’s key features is its offline learning capability, allowing students to complete the course without mobile data or continuous internet access. Upon completion, participants receive a UK-recognised certification and can continue to retain and use the application for personal and professional development.

WIM said the initiative reflects its commitment to democratising access to emerging technologies and preparing Sri Lanka’s youth for a rapidly evolving digital economy. By removing traditional barriers such as high costs and connectivity requirements, the programme aims to ensure that AI literacy is accessible to a wider segment of society.

The launch marks a significant step in positioning Sri Lanka at the forefront of inclusive AI education in Asia, while empowering young people with critical skills needed for future education, employment and entrepreneurship.
