Merak 2026 expands autism awareness drive ahead of Guinness World Record attempt

As preparations intensify for the Guinness World Record attempt for the World’s Longest Sensory Board, Dr Anton James, Director of The Tree House International and Founder of Merak 2026, has been travelling across the island conducting community-focused autism awareness programmes.

From the North to the South of Sri Lanka, the initiative has reached parents, teachers, and community workers, particularly within traditionally underserved and hard-to-reach communities.

The campaign has focused not only on increasing awareness and breaking social stigma surrounding autism, but also on listening to and understanding the lived experiences of individuals on the autism spectrum and their families.

By bringing together artists, educators, corporates, families, and local communities, Merak 2026 aims to create long-term awareness around autism while demonstrating how sustainability, education, and inclusion can come together to drive meaningful social change and national transformation.

Merak 2026 is supported by title sponsors Nyne Hotels and The Kayden Cares Framework, along with mental health and strategic partners I See You and Infinite Grace Foundation.

The World’s Longest Sensory Board will be open to the public on May 16 and 17 at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.
