The Department of Registration of Persons’ computer system, which was experiencing technical issues, has been resolved.
The technical issues with the computer system experienced yesterday caused the one-day identity card service to come to a standstill.
It was reported that consequently, close to a thousand people who came to the department to obtain identity cards were severely inconvenienced.
However the Department of Registration of Persons’ Operations and Information Technology Commissioner Harsha Ilukpitiya said that the problem had been dealt with by around 8.30 last night, and that processing of all applications for identity cards yesterday had been completed.
