The world's largest star Sapphire cluster has been found from a backyard of a house in Ratnapura
Thilak Weerasinghe, Chairman of the National Gem and Jewelery Authority says that a Sapphire cluster which can be considered as the largest star sapphire in the world has been found in the Ratnapura area.
It is estimated to weigh 2.5 million carats, or 510 kilograms.
Its value is estimated at about US $ 100 million.
A businessman in the Ratnapura area has found this unusual gem while digging a well behind his house.
It states that he was named it as the 'Serendipity Sapphire'.
