Jaya Sri issued summons for contempt of court

Summons have been issued to Sri Lankan reggae duo Jaya Sri for contempt of court, for violating an injunction order issued.

Attorney-at-Law Rakhitha Rajapaksa, appearing for Attorney-at-Law Rakhitha Rajapaksa on behalf of petitioner Aruna Liyan on the instructions of Thilini Hovitharana, said that violating the enjoining order issued by the court was a serious matter.

The case is set to be taken up again on January 27, 2022.

An injunction order has been issued by the Colombo Commercial High Court Judge Priyantha Fernando last December preventing the band known as 'Jaya Sri' from performing 20 songs written by singer and musician Aruna Liyan.

These banned list include Prarthana, Sudu Adhimin Sari Muwa Hasarelle, Mod Goviya, Adara Lowe Api Hamunu, Siumali, Shila, Sundariye Gomariye, Maa Monkey Hanumantha, which were identified as iconic Jayasri songs.

However, the order was issued to Rohan Jayalath and Rohitha Jayalath from performing the songs on the internet, as well as in concerts, and be used as phone ringin tones.
