Embankment collapses on upcountry railway; train delays - landslide warning extended

The railway department has announced potential delays in the upcountry railway services today (06) following the collapse of an embankment near the 148th mile post between Ohia and Idalgashinna. Heavy rains triggered the collapse, with an earthen mound obstructing the railway line.

Efforts are underway to address the situation, and a team of workers has been dispatched to remove the soil and clear the affected area. However, commuters are advised to expect delays as the necessary remedial measures are implemented.

In addition to the railway disruption, a landslide warning has been extended for several districts. The warning pertains to Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Galle, and Matara districts, emphasizing the ongoing challenges posed by adverse weather conditions in these areas. Residents and travelers are urged to exercise caution and stay informed about weather updates to ensure their safety.
