In a recent Facebook post, President’s Counsel Mohamed Ali Sabry, former Justice and Foreign Affairs Minister, stated that Ranil Wickremesinghe, the former President, is a leader who worked to stabilise and rebuild Sri Lanka during three critical occasions.
According to the post, in 1993, following the assassination of President R. Premadasa, Wickremesinghe worked to ensure the continuity of the government and prevent the country from descending into anarchy.
Sabry also wrote that in 2000, when the country faced its first economic recession, Wickremesinghe restored economic growth and stabilised the nation.
Most recently, at the peak of the most severe economic crisis in history in 2022, he took on the leadership and saved Sri Lanka from collapse.
Sabry further stated that the arrest of Wickremesinghe, which a YouTuber had reportedly predicted, is a serious and regrettable matter.
He added that such actions endanger the country's future and reflect a dangerous trend of vengeful and destructive politics.
The post concludes by saying that this politics of hatred and revenge must end.
Sabry also stated that Sri Lanka needs a politics that expresses gratitude to those who have protected the country and the nation.
