Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa has extended his congratulations to the United National Party (UNP) on its 79th anniversary.
In his message, the Opposition Leader highlighted the UNP's historical role, noting that the party was founded by D. S. Senanayake based on the experience gained from the Ceylon National Congress, which played a key role in Sri Lanka's independence struggle.
Premadasa emphasised that the UNP brought together various communities, including Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Burghers, and Malays, to work towards a common national goal.
He urged all parties to now work together to protect democracy in the country, noting that the UNP's service to the nation has been "immeasurable."
