
The Sri Lanka Navy conducted an awareness programme for the fishing community in Negombo on September 19 at SLNS Kelani, Uswetakeiyawa.
The programme focused on combating drug trafficking and illegal fishing, while also addressing the challenges faced by fishermen engaged in lawful practices.
Participants were educated on the adverse impacts of these illicit activities and the prevailing legal framework.
The session also provided a forum to exchange views with fishing association representatives.
The Deputy Area Commander Western Naval Area, Assistant Director of Fisheries of Negombo, senior naval officers, fisheries inspectors, and fishing association leaders were present at the event.
