Police issue warning on fake letter circulating on social media

The Sri Lanka Police have warned the public about a fake letter currently circulating on social media.

The letter, which bears the supposed signature of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), is completely false and fabricated.

Police strongly emphasise that neither the IGP nor any authorised department of the police has ever issued this document.

The police believe that the letter was created to intentionally mislead the public.

The public is urged to refrain from sharing such false information and to rely only on official and credible announcements issued by the Police Media Division. The police also noted that circulating fake documents could be a punishable offence under the law.
