Dishan Gunasekera, the former Custodian of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, announced that he has reformed the system to prevent anyone from embezzling the temple's funds again. His official term as Custodian ended today (23).
He stated that the Devalaya's daily income is now updated on its official website and can be viewed by anyone, adding that establishing such transparency in other institutions in the country would be invaluable.
Gunasekera also revealed that when he took office, the devalaya’s income was around Rs. 50 million, and he has since increased it eight-fold to Rs. 400 million by the end of this year. He noted that this increase in revenue allowed the temple to undertake many large-scale religious activities during his tenure.
