The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) today (23) requested and received permission from the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court to record a statement from Jayasekara Vithanage Ruwan Chamara, also known as 'Midigama Ruwan,' who is alleged to be a leader of a criminal gang.
The request was made before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
The Magistrate granted permission for the PNB to question Midigama Ruwan, who is currently being held on remand at Boossa Prison, on October 13th. The PNB stated that the statement is necessary for further investigations into the illegal importation and trafficking of heroin into Sri Lanka.
Four other suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
