A teacher arrested by the Kotahena Police for allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old student and injuring his eye has been released on a personal bail of Rs. 500,000.
The order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate H. D. Darshima Premaratne.
The teacher, a resident of the Batticaloa area, was granted bail after a hearing.
Kotahena Police informed the court that the teacher had questioned the student in the school library.
The student reportedly failed to answer, which angered the teacher.
She then allegedly hit the student with an aluminum ruler, which struck his right eye and caused an injury.
The student is currently receiving treatment at Ward 11 of the Colombo National Eye Hospital.
