The Ministry of Plantations and Community Infrastructure has announced that train services on the Main Line between Badulla and Ambewela will officially resume tomorrow (20).
The rail link had been paralysed for 23 days following catastrophic damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah, which triggered massive landslides and washaways along the scenic highland tracks.
To mark the restoration of the track, a special Class S14 power-set train, designated as the 'Udarata Menike' (SPL 1016), will depart from the Badulla Railway Station tomorrow morning.
Key Departure Times for Saturday, Dec 20:
·08:00 AM: Departure from Badulla Railway Station
·09:15 AM: Arrival at Demodara
·09:40 AM: Arrival at Ella
·10:20 AM: Arrival at Diyatalawa
Given the strategic importance of the Main Line for tourism and the transport of essential goods, several high-ranking officials will join the inaugural journey.
This includes Plantations and Community Infrastructure Minister Samantha Vidyaratne and Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe.
