Two individuals were hospitalised with severe injuries following a vehicle collision in Minneriya early this morning (07).
Minneriya Police report that the incident occurred on the Habarana-Polonnaruwa road when a small lorry crashed into a container truck. Both vehicles were travelling from Polonnaruwa toward Habarana at the time.
The container truck was parked on the side of the road while the driver visited a nearby shop. The following small lorry, which was transporting peanuts, struck the rear of the stationary container.
The driver and the assistant in the small lorry sustained injuries and were initially taken to Hingurakgoda Hospital before being transferred to Polonnaruwa General Hospital.
Medical sources indicate that the assistant remains in critical condition.
Police took the container truck driver into custody and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event.
