Saman Ekanayake produced before Fort Magistrate

Prison officials produced former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake before the Fort Magistrate’s Court at approximately 1:30 PM today.

The production relates to a case where he is accused of aiding and abetting the misappropriation of state funds. The charges involve an alleged loss to the government exceeding Rs. 15 million, incurred during a private visit to London by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to attend the graduation ceremony of his wife, Professor Maithree Wickramasinghe.

The former Presidential Secretary had been held in remand custody until today, February 11.
