Fuel deliveries to distributors will not take place tomorrow or the day after, according to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).
Current fuel stocks are sufficient to last until next May, stated Managing Director Mayura Neththikumara.
A program has been implemented to maintain filling station operations and ensure continuous fuel supply to consumers by facilitating stock orders, the CPC announced. Delays in ordering fuel can be avoided by submitting relevant checks to the ordering section or the bulk terminal on the previous day, the corporation pointed out.
Fuel distribution should continue as an essential service given the current situation, Ananda Palitha, convener of the Samagi United Trade Union Alliance, told Hiru News.
Fuel issuance based on the odd-even system for vehicle registration plates began yesterday, and since today is an even-numbered day, only vehicles with an even last digit can obtain fuel.
Technical issues related to the QR code system have now been resolved, Sumudu Ratnayake, advisor to the Ministry of Digital Economy, stated during a press conference held in Colombo yesterday.
Nearly a week has passed since fuel distribution via the QR code system commenced, yet some vehicle owners have still not been able to obtain fuel even once.
