A private bus traveling from Dayagama to Hatton skidded off the road, resulting in one death and 22 injuries.
Hatton Police state that the victims, including school children, are currently receiving treatment at the Dickoya Basic Hospital.
The incident occurred today (29) around 3:00 PM in the Dickoya Batallagala Estate area on the Hatton-Fordyce main road.
The bus reportedly overturned into a 25-foot precipice while attempting to give way to another vehicle.
Medical staff at the Dickoya Basic Hospital report that several individuals remain in critical condition.
Authorities confirm that approximately 35 passengers were on board at the time, with both the driver and the conductor among those injured.
Hatton Police are conducting further investigations into the event.
