The post-mortem examination of a Finance Ministry official who died under mysterious circumstances is scheduled to take place today (01).
Ranga Nishantha, an Assistant Director at the Department of External Resources, was found dead yesterday (30) in the garden of his home in the Pahala Veerambua area of Kuliyapitiya.
The body of the 50-year-old official bore cut wounds when it was discovered last afternoon.
The deceased was one of four Finance Ministry officials placed under suspension regarding an incident involving the transfer of $2.5 million to a third party.
Police initially stated the death was a suicide, and Police Spokesman Superintendent of Police Minura Senarath noted that the post-mortem will confirm the exact cause of death.
While initial reports suggested the official failed to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department for two days despite being summoned, the Acting Police Media Spokesman later confirmed that the individual had indeed cooperated with the investigation and surrendered his laptop and other data devices to the authorities.
