President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka emphasised that the past, where people of the same country were divided due to the extremist agendas of opportunistic and power-hungry politicians, is ended and a war will never be allowed to occur in this country again.
The president stated this while speaking as the chief guest at the 17th National War Heroes Day commemoration ceremony held proudly near the Battaramulla War Heroes Monument yesterday afternoon.
Organised by the Ranaviru Seva Authority, this year's commemoration is unique as a large number of family members of war heroes were allowed to participate for the first time in history.
The president pointed out that in our country, which operates for a long time based on the non-violence, kindness, and compassion of Buddhism, humanity comes forward regardless of race even during a natural disaster.
Furthermore, the president questioned before everyone, "What an excellent country can be built for such a beautiful human society?"
The president swore in front of the monument that the war heroes sacrificed their lives and limbs for a peaceful, developed, and perfectly just country without war, and the current government unconditionally accepts the responsibility of creating that future they wished for on the verge of death, and those wishes will never be betrayed.
He said that instead of the old destructive path that sows hatred and anger, the current government chose the new humanitarian path that leads the country towards unity, development, and prosperity, and will walk on it fearlessly.
Stating that a comforting country will not be left for the future generation on rivers of blood and bomb bullets, the president guaranteed that Sri Lanka will never again be allowed to become a victim of any racist or extremist group.
Meanwhile, the president emphasised that having ended the decades-long armed war, we must now win the economic war, the war of unemployment, and the war of securing an excellent country for the generation of children, which envelops us as a country.
