The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka questioned the wife and lawyer of former State Intelligence Service Chief, Retired Major General Suresh Sallay, as well as representatives of the Criminal Investigation Department, last afternoon, over allegations of torture while Sallay was in CID custody.
During the inquiry, Sallay’s legal team said that CID officers admitted that he was subjected to a physical search in front of other detainees on the 8th of March.
Following the hearing, the Human Rights Commission instructed the CID to submit the standard operating procedure for such searches, records and CCTV footage of searches conducted in 2026, the names of the officers involved in the 8th of March search of Sallay, and documents related to the detention order, before the 26th of this month.
The former SIS Director continues to be treated at the Colombo National Hospital and is still on a fast unto death.
