The prime suspect arrested in Jaffna over the murder of a female physiotherapist in Teldeniya, has confessed to the Police.
The suspect, with his wife and child, is being transferred to the Nuwara Eliya Police Station to obtain detention orders.
The family was apprehended during a joint operation by the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit and the Jaffna District Crime Investigation Bureau at Kaithady in Chavakachcheri.
Police officers intercepted a Kankesanthurai-bound luxury bus following intelligence that the suspects were planning to flee to India.
At the time of the arrest, the bald suspect was wearing a wig, mask, and cap to disguise himself as a Tamil man, while his wife was disguised as a Muslim woman.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and claimed he had intended to surrender after visiting his other two children in Kurunegala. Investigations revealed that the suspect had previously stayed hidden in Negombo and Chilaw before travelling to Jaffna, where he had even practised speaking Tamil to evade detection.
The body of the 33-year-old victim, a resident of Weligama, was discovered inside a parked car in Teldeniya on June 17.
Police Media Division disclosed that the suspect is a serial fraudster with pending cases in Gampaha, Hulftsdorp, Tissamaharama, Kaduwela, and Horana courts.
He faces accusations of defrauding various women of nearly Rs. 22 million by promising marriage, in addition to other scams related to foreign employment and vehicle imports.
Police also clarified that media reports portraying him as a computer software engineer are false.
