Legal action taken against 5,000 for maintaining dengue-prone premises

Public Health Inspectors have initiated legal proceedings against approximately 5,000 individuals found to be maintaining environments conducive to mosquito breeding.

Acting President of the association, Upul Rohana, confirmed that operations to identify and penalise such offenders will continue.

Amid these efforts, a new circular regarding dengue prevention and control has been issued, declaring a special three-day eradication drive spanning from yesterday through tomorrow.

According to data from the National Dengue Control Unit, the death toll from the virus now stands at 29. The total number of reported cases for the year has exceeded 49,000, with 52% of these infections originating in the Western Province.

Meanwhile, speaking to the news media, Specialist Physician Lakkumar Fernando, founder of the Dengue Control Centre at the Negombo General Hospital, stated that no new variant of the virus has been identified at this time.
