Special operation launched targeting 22 high-risk dengue zones

A special dengue prevention operation commences tomorrow, July 5, covering 22 high-risk zones across the Western Province.

This decision followed a discussion held today (4) at the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat on measures to control the current dengue situation.

Representatives from the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, the National Dengue Control Unit, the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, the Sri Lanka Police, the Sri Lanka Army, the Sri Lanka Navy, the Sri Lanka Air Force, and the Department of Government Information attended the discussion.

The operation involves a joint effort from health sectors, the tri-forces, the Sri Lanka Police, District Secretariats, Divisional Secretariats, local government bodies, and various state and community volunteer organisations.

The initiative aims to increase public participation in dengue control, identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites, and improve community awareness regarding prevention.

This programme focuses on nine Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions in the Colombo District, including Maharagama, Kaduwela, Gothamigama, Kotikawatta, Battaramulla, Piliyandala, and Colombo Municipal Council areas D1, D3, and D4. In the Gampaha District, it covers eight MOH divisions, including Biyagama, Kelaniya, Ja-Ela, Mahara, Wattala, and Minuwangoda.
