Two Indian nationals arrested with illegal cigarettes

Officers of the Police Narcotic Bureau airport unit arrested two suspects in possession of 53,200 illegal cigarettes at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake, according to the Police Media Division.

Raids conducted at the airport arrival terminal last night, based on received information, led to the arrest of the first suspect with 25,000 illegal cigarettes, contained in 125 cartons.

The second raid resulted in the arrest of the other suspect along with 28,200 illegal cigarettes, packed in 141 cartons.

Police stated that both arrested suspects are 26-year-old Indian nationals.

The airport unit of the Police Narcotic Bureau conducts further investigations into the incident.
