Badulla High Court Judge Jeyaram Trotsky sentenced Parliamentarian Chaminda Wijesiri to one and a half years in prison following a case regarding restraint and threatening two police officers.
Court proceedings determined that Chaminda Wijesiri and driver Bandula Rathnayake were guilty of four charges, while ministerial security police officer Rasika Karunatilake was guilty of three charges.
Driver Bandula Rathnayake passed away prior to the verdict.
The legal action was in link with an incident on or around February 10, 2019, near the Bandarawela town roundabout, where an argument broke out after a police jeep overtook vehicles carrying the parliamentarian and his associates.
