A special notification was issued to the entire fishing community by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, taking into consideration a strong wind weather advisory released today (06) by the Department of Meteorology.
According to the notification, the sea areas from Matara via Hambantota to Potuvil are completely unsuitable for coastal fishing activities under the prevailing weather conditions.
Therefore, all fishermen are strictly advised to completely refrain from going to sea for fishing activities from those areas until further notice, the statement said.
Vessels departing for fishing from other areas where no risk condition is reported are also specifically notified to strictly avoid entering or engaging in fishing activities within this designated high-risk sea zone from Matara to Potuvil.
The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources requested the entire fishing community to pay constant attention to future weather advisories issued regarding the prevailing adverse weather conditions, and to act responsibly by strictly following relevant instructions to ensure their safety.
