The executive power or the powers held by the government will under no circumstances be used beyond the powers of the Constitution, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasised.
President Dissanayake said this during a meeting held yesterday with the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).
During the discussion, which lasted nearly an hour, was focused on the 22nd constitutional amendment which links with the extension of the retirement age of judges.
The President further added:
"I will under no circumstances utilise my executive power or a power we possess to be used beyond the constitution.
Next, the risk as mentioned, meaning that because of this constitutional amendment, as you say, similar to what the other president had to face, I will also have to go. I am a man ready to go. I am not a man who came expecting to be in this position permanently. Likewise, I am a man ready to take the risk to make this change. I do not think a change will happen without a risk. A change always happens by bearing a risk."
