The modernised Kalutara, Nagoda Teaching Hospital modernised incurring an expenditure of over Rs. 134 million, was officially vested in the public today (16), under the patronage of Minister of Health and Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
The Ministry of Health mentioned that an investment valued at over Rs. 134 million was made by the Ministry of Health and Media for this project, aiming to provide a more qualitative, efficient, and comfortable health service to the patient population, and to strengthen the service capacity of the hospital.
Under this development programme, numerous units including the outpatient department, main pharmacy, clinics, corridors leading to wards, wards 21 and 22, the building conducting health education and public health services, and the psychiatric treatment ward were modernised.
In addition, doctors' quarters, nursing and junior staff rest rooms were modernised, while the opening of the newly constructed minor staff controller office and handing over a repaired three-wheeler for hospital use also took place today (16).
Expressing views to the media, the minister mentioned that through spending state funds in the treasury with proper management, it became possible to recruit the human resources necessary for the health service.
Not only that, he further stated that Rs. 45 billion is allocated to complete projects halted halfway within the upcoming two years, and steps are being taken to provide modern medical equipment including 16 state-of-the-art cath labs to main hospitals of the country.
Galle District Member of Parliament Nandana Padmakumara, Director of Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital Dr. Madhubhashini Karunaratne, Deputy Director Dr. Nayanajit Komasaru, along with consultant doctors, doctors, nurses, and health staff joined the ceremony.
