Ten individuals are hospitalised as a boat capsized in the Jaffna Delft sea, the Sri Lanka Navy said.
The passenger boat was reported to have met with an incident near the Jaffna Nagadeepa island today (16) at around 5.30 pm, the Navy mentioned.
Upon inquiry made by Hiru News Division, the Navy Media Spokesperson mentioned that by now the 10 passengers who were travelling in that boat were admitted to the Nagadeepa Hospital and no loss of life reported.
The group of passengers were transferred to the Jaffna General Hospital, the Navy Media Spokesperson added.
It is reported that these passengers were a group on a pilgrimage.
The boat with the pilgrims departed from the Jaffna Kurikadduwan area today (16) at 3.30 pm, and they were scheduled to arrive at the destination of Delft island at 5.30 pm, and since they did not land on time, this incident was reported following Navy inquiries.
According to the Navy the group of passengers have travelled disregarding the warnings issued on the prevailing rough seas.
