Sun directly overhead over several areas

The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers from time to time today (29) in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Several spells of showers may occur in the North Western province.

The statement mentions that showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa, and Hambantota districts after 2.00 pm.

Mainly dry weather prevails in the rest of the island.

Fairly strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can occur from time to time on the western slopes of the central hills, in Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, and in Trincomalee, Monaragala, Hambantota, and Matale districts.

Furthermore, the department requests the public to take necessary steps to minimize risks caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

With the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it will be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka from yesterday (28) to September 07.

The department announces that the sun will be directly overhead at 12:11 pm today (29) over Pallavarayankaddu, Akkarayankulam, Ariviyal Nagar, Puthukkudiyiruppu, and Ananthapuram areas.
