IMF to begin 7th review talks next week

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff team led by Mission Chief Evan Papageorgiou will visit Sri Lanka from September 10 to 23 to hold discussions on the combined seventh review of the island nation’s economic reform programme.

The review, conducted under the country's US$ 2.9 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF), will also encompass the 2026 Article IV Consultation. Upon successful completion of the review, the global lender is expected to release its eighth financial tranche, amounting to approximately US$ 330 million.

The disbursal of the new instalment will bring the total funding received by Sri Lanka under the EFF programme to nearly US$ 2.6 billion.

The visiting team is set to communicate its preliminary findings at the conclusion of the visit.
