Colombo High Court employee remanded over alleged bribe

A Colombo High Court office assistant has been remanded until 22 September after being arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of 750,000 rupees to influence a judicial sentence.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the remanding order after officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption produced the suspect in court today.

The suspect allegedly solicited and accepted the money promising to secure a suspended prison sentence from the presiding judge in an ongoing bribery case filed against former Deputy Minister Sarana Gupta Gunawardena.
