Sri Lanka defeat Netherlands in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up match

Sri Lanka Women’s cricket team secured a dominant seven-wicket victory over the Netherlands in a warm-up match ahead of the official ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to be held in England.

The match, played in Derby, saw the Netherlands win the toss and post a competitive total of 143 for 6 in their 20 overs.

Heather Siegers top-scored for the Netherlands with 48 runs off 32 balls, while Sterre Kalis added 45 runs.

However, Sri Lanka’s bowlers made a strong comeback at the death, taking four wickets for just 11 runs to restrict the opposition.

In reply, Sri Lanka lost two early wickets for 30 runs inside six overs before Hasini Perera steadied the innings with a quickfire 31 off 20 balls.

The chase was then anchored by an unbeaten 81-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Hansima Karunaratne and stand-in captain Harshitha Samarawickrama, who led the side in place of regular captain Chamari Athapaththu.

Karunaratne remained unbeaten on 54, while Samarawickrama finished not out on 36, guiding Sri Lanka to victory in the final over.

This win follows Sri Lanka’s earlier warm-up victory against Pakistan, giving them a perfect 2-0 record in the practice matches ahead of the tournament.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 will begin on June 12, with hosts England taking on Sri Lanka in the opening match at Edgbaston.
