Abhishek Porel arrested over physical allegations

Delhi Capitals and Bengal wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel was arrested by police in West Bengal in connection with a case filed following a complaint by a woman.

The Calcutta High Court earlier directed police to apprehend him in connection with the case, leading to his arrest in Hooghly district. He was remanded to three days of police custody, according to PTI.

A complaint in which the woman accused Porel of establishing a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage led to the registration of the case at Mogra Police Station. Porel also faces allegations of criminal intimidation and other offences, though the allegations are not proven in court.

The Calcutta High Court on July 14 directed police to continue efforts to apprehend Porel and another accused and seize electronic devices relevant to the investigation.

Porel, 23, represents Bengal in Indian domestic cricket and played for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.

The investigation into the allegations continues.
