Director-General of Archeology Prof. Anura Manatunga says that the myth that the birth of Bodhisattva took place in this country will never be allowed to spread. He stated that the sole purpose of spreading the relevant superstition is to harm Buddhism.

Archaeological excavations in the Habarana-Hiriwadunna area commenced yesterday.

The excavations have commenced at the request of the Buddhist Advisory Committee.

When a group including the Minister of Culture Vidura Wickramanayake visited the Bodhirajaramaya in Hiriwadunna, Habarana on the 8th of January, there was a strong protest from the residents of the area.

Some of those who came with them claimed that the birth of Bodhisattva had taken place at the relevant place and showed some old photographs and books to confirm it.
