THREE-DAY-OLD+INFANT+FOUND+ABANDONED+IN+A+TOILET

A three-day-old female infant was found abandoned inside a toilet, left in a bag, in Akkaraipattu, Ampara.


Police said the discovery was made in a toilet located behind the Rahuman Jummah Mosque, Ashraff Nagar.


A resident in the area heard a child crying, and upon checking, found the baby.


Akkaraipattu Police were informed via phone and subsequently arrived at the scene, taking the infant to the Olivil Regional Hospital.


The baby was later transferred to the Akkaraipattu Hospital for further treatment.


According to the Hospital's Medical Superintendent, Dr. I. M. Juvahir, the baby is currently in the hospital staff's care at the Neonatal Unit of the Akkaraipattu Base Hospital and is in good health.


Akkaraipattu Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
