Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mujibur Rahman stated that the no-confidence motion submitted against Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara was intended to reveal numerous undisclosed facts about the Easter Sunday attacks in Parliament.
The MP pointed out that this opportunity was lost after the Speaker rejected the motion.
However, Rahman stated that these important facts would be revealed in some manner in the future, and he would discuss the matter with opposition party leaders at the next meeting.
Rahman raised a suspicion, arguing that since the government has a two-thirds majority in Parliament and could have easily defeated the no-confidence motion, the motion was rejected without any stated reason because the government fears being exposed by the new information the opposition intended to reveal.
He further claimed that there was no reason for the Speaker to reject the motion, especially by disregarding reports from the Parliament Secretariat and the Attorney General.
The MP added that the opposition would proceed with signing a no-confidence motion against the Speaker this week, claiming the Speaker is not acting in accordance with the Constitution and Parliamentary Standing Orders.
