Organisers of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) say that Indian cricketers will participate in this year's Twenty20 tournament.
Historically, Indian cricketers have not been permitted to play in professional league tournaments outside of the Indian Premier League (IPL), despite the proliferation of such leagues worldwide.
This means that the LPL will offer the first-ever opportunity for Indian cricketers to represent a foreign league tournament.
The 6th edition of the Lanka Premier League Twenty20 tournament is scheduled to begin on December 1 this year.
The 24-match tournament is planned to take place at venues in Colombo (R. Premadasa Stadium), Pallekele, and Dambulla.
The names of the Indian cricketers who will join the tournament are expected to be announced soon by Sri Lanka Cricket and the LPL organisers.
